Kalyan: Over a week since four of Shiv Sena (UBT)’s 11 corporators became unreachable right after the results of the Kalyan-Dombivli civic polls were announced, party workers put up posters across Kalyan declaring them ‘missing’.The posters, purportedly pasted following Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut’s directive, urge those with any information about the corporators to contact the party’s shakha. Party functionaries said they had also filed a complaint with police, who, they alleged, were not cooperating in tracing them. This, they said, had forced them to seek the public’s help. “There is a lack of seriousness and cooperation from the police machinery in tracing them,” said Neeraj Kumar, Sena (UBT)’s Kalyan youth president.
Madhur Mhatre and Kirti Dhone from Kalyan East and Rahul Kot and Swapnali Ken from Kalyan West have been untraceable since Jan 17. Repeated attempts to contact them through phone calls and party whips failed. Sena (UBT) functionaries have accused Shiv Sena and its new ally, MNS, of having a hand in it. They said the corporators’ families, too, are under severe stress, with some expressing fears they may have been abducted and their safety is at risk.Kumar said if the four fail to attend a party meeting convened on Monday despite being issued a whip, Sena (UBT) will initiate proceedings for their disqualification as corporators.
