Robbery case turns on its head, injured tutor booked for sexually assaulting boy

New Delhi: A suspected armed robbery in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar turned out to be a revenge attack after police found the injured man, a private tutor, had allegedly sexually abused a minor. Police said they were alerted on Jan 2 about a 32-year-old man with stab wounds admitted near Kondli Pul. He was later shifted to another hospital due to his critical condition. The man was uncooperative and could not pinpoint the crime scene, prompting investigators to rely on technical surveillance. “Footage from nearly 150 CCTV cameras showed him riding a bicycle with a minor boy. Twenty-three minutes later, he returned alone, bleeding,” said additional commissioner of police (East) Abhishek Dhania. Further tracking revealed the boy running behind the bicycle and later abandoning a duffle bag at the hospital. Questioned in the presence of his parents, he initially claimed an unknown assailant had robbed and stabbed the tutor. Inconsistencies in his statement led police to widen the probe. Local intelligence helped identify the attacker, who was arrested from his home. He allegedly confessed to stabbing and robbing the tutor with the minor’s help. “The accused said the attack was driven by anger over alleged repeated sexual abuse of the boy. To conceal the motive, they staged it as a robbery and took the man’s phone and cash,” a senior officer said. Police have registered a separate case under the Pocso Act against the injured man based on the minor’s statement. tnn
