Robbers break car window, flee with jewels

New Delhi: At least 62 articles of diamond and gold coloured stone jewellery were stolen after robbers broke the window of a car in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh. According to police, the jewellery belonged to a 34-year-old Civil Lines-based shop owner who runs a store on Karnal Road. He sent new jewellery to a Karol Bagh lab for grading and testing. Similarly, on Nov 14, he had deposited a fresh batch and came to collect it four days later. On Nov 18 after returning with the graded jewellery around 6.30 pm, he had received a call from his staffer, asking him to stop by a local gemstone shop in Karol Bagh to examine their collection. Fifteen minutes later, he met the staffer near Durga Park on DBG Road, parked his car and slid the bag containing the valuables under the backseat before stepping away. When the duo returned around 8 pm, the jeweller found the rear glass on the right side of the car shattered. He opened the door to discover that the bag was missing. An FIR was registered at Karol Bagh police station. Officials said efforts are on to identify and trace the accused.
