Robber snatches 73-year-old man’s gold chain worth 4L on Taljai Hill, flees with aide on scooter | Pune News

Pune: An unknown man early on Tuesday morning snatched a 73-year-old finance businessman’s gold chain worth Rs4 lakh on the Taljai Hill and drove away behind an accomplice on a scooter. The elderly victim suffered injuries to his knees as the robber pushed him down before fleeing. A case of robbery was registered with the Sahakarnagar police on the same day. Senior police inspector Vitthal Pawar of the Sahakarnagar police said the complainant is a resident of the Salisbury Park area and visits Taljai Hill every morning for a walk along with his friends. “Around 5.15am on Tuesday, when the senior citizen was near the temple on the hillock, an unknown man followed him. He snatched the victim’s gold chain worth Rs4 lakh and pushed him down,” said Pawar, adding that the robber’s accomplice, who had been waiting some distance away, reached there on a scooter and both of them drove away. The victim suffered knee injuries following the fall. He went home and later came to the police station after getting preliminary treatment. “According to the complainant, both robbers wore black trousers and jackets, and had covered their faces with scarves,” the officer said. Pawar said there are no CCTV cameras on the hillock. “The duo’s scooter was captured by a CCTV camera at the foothills. Due to the darkness at the time and taillights of the scooter, the footage is not clear,” he said. The officer also said he visits Taljai Hill every night and requests people to go down if found loitering on the hillock. “We have constant patrolling on the hillock,” Pawar said, and added, “We are working on some clues and will soon arrest the robbers.”
