Pune: Residents and daily commuters in and around Nagar Road and Wagholi want a comprehensive traffic management plan in place before two proposed infrastructure projects in the area start. In June, while the Union govt approved the 11-km long Ramwadi-Wagholi elevated Metro corridor, state govt has proposed an elevated six-lane Pune to Shirur road, to be executed by the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC).The groundwork for these projects is yet to start, but commuters are sceptical about traffic related problems when the projects commence.Dipak Mohite, a resident of Wadgaon Sheri, said, Ahmednagar Road was among the busiest stretches in the city with a ‘high’ vehicular density. “The administration has a challenge to handle traffic during the execution of both the projects. Commuters faced a lot of challenges during the construction of the Metro’s viaduct till the Ramwadi station,” Mohite said.An offical of Maha Metro said various formalities would be completed before the actual work starts. “Maha Metro would establish communication with PMC and MSIDC on the execution plan,” he said.Ajay Dharvat, a resident from Chandannagar, said, “The agencies implementing these projects should not work in isolation. Lack of coordination would lead to chaos,” he said.“PMC, Maha Metro and MSIDC should work together,” Dharvat said. The MSIDC has initiated the tendering process to appoint an agency to execute the six-lane elevated road project. The road will start from Vimannagar and end at Shirur.Earlier, the plan was to construct the road from Wagholi to Shirur. Later, state govt decided to extend it within PMC limits till Vimannagar. Officials from MSIDC said as some stretches of the elevated road were within PMC limits, the work would be executed in coordination with PMC.TALE OF TWO PROJECTSSix-lane Elevated Road: From Vimanagar-Wagholi to ShirurLength: 53 kmRamwadi-Wagholi-Vitthalwadi Metro:From Ramwadi to WagholiLength: 11 km, Stations: 11QUOTE:Ahmednagar Road was among the busiest stretches in the city with a ‘high’ vehicular density.
