Pune: The long-pending work of railway yard remodelling, which includes construction of six additional platforms at Pune railway station, will take another year to be completed fully, senior officials said on Friday.“A sum of Rs400 crore has been sanctioned for the overall development of the Pune station and the complex work on yard remodellinghas been partially started. By the end of this year, we plan to complete the entire work,” Rajesh Kumar Verma, divisional railway manager, Pune, said. The project was first discussed in 2016 but has been disrupted by continuous delays. However, with the railways concentrating in developing Hadapsar and Khadki stations, officials said the project — a part of the Pune station development plan — was finally on the right path. “The project will result in train movements from Pune being shifted. . Hadapsar railway station is almost complete and for a second entry option, work has been sanctioned for platform number 4 and a foot overbridge,” he said, adding that work pertaining to Khadki station had been sanctioned too. About the Pune station redevelopment plan, Verma said the final master plan was ready.Another official however said the work on the same would take time as the master plan first needed to be approved by higher authorities. “It is an ambitious project aimed at full development of the Pune railway station, which has been facing some space issues due to increase in the number of passengers,” the official said.
