Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: With the onset of summer, recharging of water holes in different sanctuaries from Marathwada is sought by nature lovers for the benefit of different wild creatures.At 34.6°C, the maximum temperature in Chhatrapati Sambhajingar was above the normal range by nearly two units on Monday. Gautala Autramghat wildlife sanctuary in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and neighbouring Jalgaon district, Yedshi Ramling Ghat wildlife sanctuary in Dharashiv district and Naigaon Peacock Sanctuary in Beed district are the important sanctuaries in Marathwada.
Conservationist Kishor Pathak, while talking to TOI, said water holes are the only source of water for wild creatures during summer.“Many natural water bodies in the wildlife sanctuaries start to dry down from early Feb. The water holes need to be cleaned and filled with water periodically. Different wild animals may die if no official attention is paid to water holes,” he said.Gautala Autramghat wildlife sanctuary has around 46 water holes that are visited by different wild animals. The total number of water holes from other sanctuaries from Marathwada could not be ascertained.When contacted, deputy conservator of forest (wildlife) Revati Kulkarni said instructions have been issued to the local staff to ensure sufficient water availability in different water holes. “The staffers have been asked to carry out regular cleaning and recharging of water holes. Water tankers and other arrangements are used to fill the water in these artificial water bodies,” she said.
