Pvt firm supervisor held for murdering homeless woman | Pune News



Pune: The crime branch on Thursday arrested a supervisor working with a private company on the charge of murdering an unknown woman whose body was found on March 3 in an open plot at Wadki along the Hadapsar-Saswad Road. Police took action within 3 days of the alleged crime. The accused, identified as Prakash Mane (29) of Wadki Nala, bludgeoned the woman to death after she resisted his attempt to force himself on her, police said.

A crime branch team led by inspector Sudarshan Gaikwad traced the accused with the help of CCTV camera footage and took him into custody.A case was earlier registered with the Phursungi police, but they failed to ascertain the woman’s identity. The crime branch was conducting parallel investigations in the case.“Police constables Amit Kamble and Tanaji Deshmukh scrutinised available footage. They traced the accused and took him into custody,” said a crime branch officer.He said that during questioning, Mane admitted to murdering the woman. The victim was homeless and had been wandering in the area for the past few days. The accused noticed her and tried to sexually assault her. When the woman resisted, he throttled her and then bludgeoned her to death with a big stone.“We are yet to ascertain the identity of the woman,” the officer added.
