Pune: The Pune Rural police on Tuesday arrested a 34-year-old resident of Sangvi on charge of impersonating as a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official. The accused reportedly targeted a 29-year-old pharmacist in Rajgurunagar, demanding a payment of Rs20,000. The pharmacy owner became suspicious and alerted other pharmacy owners.
The police recovered a fake identity card from the accused and booked him under sections 204 (personating a public servant), 336 (forgery), and 337 (forgery of court records, public registers, and identity documents) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). An officer from the Khed police said, “The pharmacist got suspicious as the identity card shown by the accused was different from that of a drug inspector, who regularly used to visit his shop for inspection. The accused was caught and brought to the police station. We have registered a case against him and further investigation is on.”
