Pune CP says AI-based alert system worked well

Pune: The AI-based analytics system generated over 30,000 alerts for abandoned bags, crowded situations, and other concerns during the immersion procession on Saturday and Sunday. The system also generated 260 alerts for criminals on police records. Of these, the police succeeded in nabbing over 100 and questioning them.The AI-based system was installed by the Pune city police to monitor the last five days of Ganeshotsav and the immersion procession.Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Monday reviewed the AI-based system and expressed his satisfaction. “The system has worked well,” he said.Assistant commissioner of police (communication and IT) Vivek Pawar told TOI, “The system generated over 30,000 alerts for various purposes, including abandoned bags, articles, crowded situations, commotions or scuffles, men riding triple seat, and others. The system also generated 260 alerts after the cameras spotted criminals moving in the crowd.”According to police, a few of the criminals spotted on cameras have been involved in murder cases, and after verifying their documents, they were allowed to go.The newly deployed network of CCTV cameras was linked to a makeshift control room and was operated from Faraskhana. The control room alerted ground staff after the system raised an alarm.
