Pune: An employee of a private company (40) from Ravet lost Rs 89 lakh to cyber crooks in an online share trading fraud between May and July.The victim lodged a complaint on Friday with the Pimpri Chinchwad cybercrime police.Senior inspector Ravikiran Nale of the Pimpri Chinchwad cybercrime police told TOI that the complainant, in May, was added to a group of investors on a mobile messenger app. The crooks compelled him to download and invest via an app. “He downloaded the app thinking it was from a prominent investment company,” Nale said.He said between May and July, the complainant transferred Rs 89.35 lakh to seven bank account numbers provided to him. “He could see in the app that he earned a profit of Rs 8.71 crore on his investments. When he tried to withdraw, the crooks demanded more money under the pretext of payment of service tax,” he said.Nale said, “Our investigations are on.”
