Premanand Maharaj of Vrindavan is widely respected for guiding people across all walks of life, from students and families to fellow saints. His teachings often emphasise the importance of living a calm and disciplined life. In a recent discourse, he shared valuable advice specifically for pregnant women.

Maharaj stressed the importance of maintaining a steady routine during pregnancy, which includes waking up early, eating nutritious food, and caring for both the mind and body. He recommended getting at least six hours of sleep daily, with the remaining time spent on light activities. He also cautioned against any actions that might put pressure on the womb for the safety of the baby.

Premanand Maharaj highlighted that a healthy diet and peaceful behaviour support the child’s growth in the womb. Additionally, he noted that a calm mind, gentle habits, and remembering God help guide a person in the right direction.

Do’s & Don’ts For Pregnant Women

Sleep And Rest

He talks about waking up around 2 a.m. but reminds that this routine is effective only if the mother gets the right amount of sleep. For example, if someone sleeps four hours at night, they can make up the remaining two hours of the recommended six hours with daytime rest. According to Maharaj, those who engage in physically tiring work should aim for seven hours of sleep.

Daily Routine

Premanand Maharaj advises that a pregnant woman should ensure she gets six hours of sleep each day. Without adequate rest, the mind becomes dull, making even simple prayers or daily tasks exhausting. After these six hours of sleep, the remaining time can be devoted to light, gentle activities. The key is to keep the body calm, maintain a simple routine, and support the child’s growth in the best possible way.

Celibacy and Proper Diet

Premanand Maharaj says that listening to devotional stories, singing or chanting will help build good thoughts and values in the child. The moment a woman learns she is pregnant, she should stop physical relations. If this care is not taken, it may have a negative impact on the child’s development. Eating good food and getting enough rest are also very important, as both help the child develop strongly and healthily.

Diet And Sadhana

Maharaj explains that a woman who is sick or pregnant should not follow strict rules meant for healthy people. If someone is unwell and needs medicine, they should eat a little snack before taking it, because medicines can be strong on an empty stomach. He says that a pregnant woman must think about the baby growing inside her. Eating little can harm the child, as the baby needs proper nourishment to grow well. If the mother eats only once, the baby may not get enough strength. So she should have doctor-approved foods like milk, fruit or juice a few times a day to support the baby’s health.

Post Delivery Sadhana

After delivery, once the mother has recovered, she can gradually return to her spiritual practices and resume her routines without difficulty. Maharaj also mentions that even eating once every 24 hours can help keep the body healthy and support the child’s well-being. He emphasises that following the doctor’s advice during pregnancy is essential to ensure the child’s health and safety.

Spiritual Influence

Premanand Maharaj says that the soul itself does not do anything, but it guides the body and the mind. He explains that a person develops good qualities when they spend time with wise and calm people. Staying away from those who encourage wrong behaviour helps keep the mind clean and steady.

Path of Truth

Maharaj says that a person should calm the mind and senses and keep God’s name in their thoughts. Living with honesty and good behaviour lifts a person higher in life and builds strong values. He also explains that when we choose the right food and stay away from harmful things, it helps create good sanskars in both the mind and the body.

While consulting a doctor and following their advice is crucial, Premanand Maharaj’s do’s and don’ts for pregnant women have also gained significant attention among his followers.
