Pune: A 29-year-old criminal on police records was arrested on Monday on the charge of abducting a contractor (28) from Marunji and extorting Rs 25,000 on Sept 5.A Hinjewadi police team, led by assistant police inspector D R Sali, laid a trap and took Akash Tapkir of Charholi into custody. Sali said when the complainant was returning home at Marunji around 8pm on Sept 5, the accused stopped him. He threatened the victim with a sharp knife and forced him to sit in his car. “The accused drove the victim to different spots in the Hinjewadi area and let him go around 10pm after extorting Rs 25,000,” Sali said.The officer said after receiving the complaint application, the police laid traps at different spots in Hinjewadi. “We arrested Tapkir when he came to Hinjewadi to extort money from a trader,” the officer said.Tapkir had two cases registered against him, including rioting and extortion, Sali said.
