PMC finalises 34 sites for vehicles near Metro stations | Pune News



Pune: The PMC has finalised 34 sites near Metro stations for parking and the work at four places has started. “A joint committee of the PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) and Metro officials carried out a survey of the possible sites, after which these locations were finalised. The sites are on all the three lines of the Metro, including the upcoming Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar route,” said Dinkar Gojare, the chief engineer of PMC’s project department.As of March 2026, Pune Metro offers official pay-and-park facilities at eight key stations on Line 1 (Purple Line) and Line 2 (Aqua Line). Additional parking spaces have been approved for the new Line 3 (Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor). “The administration must make efforts to increase public transport and allied facilities. The public parking for Metro users is one of the key aspects to make Metro services successful in the city,” said Sanjay Shitole of Pune City Eye, a citizens’ group.Activists and urban planners said the last-mile connectivity was crucial to promote public transport. The civic administration could not provide it and so the dependence on private vehicles was increasing, they stressed. Wakad-Katraj-Shewalewadi line feasibilityThe civic administration has written to Maha Metro to check feasibilityof the Wakad-Katraj-ShewalewadiMetro line and if this route could be included in the comprehensive mobility plan (CMP). The PMC had received suggestionsfrom elected representativeson exploring the possibilitiesof a Metro line from Wakad to Katraj and Shewalewadi.
