New Delhi: Srishti Sisodia (23) was already working at the age when her peers were navigating their campus life. She had started working immediately after finishing school and was the financial backbone of a humble household. On Monday, a car accident cut her life short.
The SUV that she was in rammed into a stationary truck, which was parked unattended and unmarked near the Rajokri flyover at dawn. Two others were injured in the accident. Srishti was taken to AIIMS hospital where she was pronounced dead.Srishti’s father, Heeralal, is a tireless food delivery worker. Mother Urmila is a homemaker. They both relied on Srishti’s steady resolve. Alongside her two brothers — Rishab and Ritesh — the family saw Srishti as a symbol of upward mobility. She recently celebrated a career milestone when she joined a company in Gurgaon. “She started working soon after finishing school and did not attend regular college classes. She took correspondence courses while working,” her cousin said, painting a portrait of a woman who traded textbooks for pay cheques to ensure her family stayed afloat. “She contributed to the household finances from a very young age.”Her family, which was celebrating at the time, is shattered. Rishab, the elder brother, celebrated his first anniversary on Feb 2, the day of the accident. His baby also turned two months old the same day. Srishti’s death came in this hour of celebration. “Srishti was very attached to the baby. She had planned a photoshoot for the kid,” a cousin said. A relative said that Heeralal had suffered a heart attack recently, and it was only a few days since he had recovered from his illness. “All three of them had worked extra hard, especially Srishti, because she had got a job when the earlier company had come to her school and hired her then,” the cousin sister said. Srishti’s transition to corporate life was supposed to be the beginning of a more comfortable chapter for the Sisodias. Instead, her father, who spent his days navigating the city’s chaotic traffic to provide for his children, faces the tragic task of her last rites.
