New Delhi: PETA India, along with a group of scientists, held a demonstration on Friday at Jantar Mantar against a pharma company in Telangana, which was allegedly involved in the abuse of animals, including dogs and monkeys. The animal welfare organisation alleged that the bioscience lab of the pharma company was subjecting species like beagles to cruel experiments, although there are scientific alternatives, and demanded the rescue of at least 1,200 beagles and other animals still with the lab.The protestors performed a play in which a group pretending to be scientists confined PETA India director Poorva Joshipura to a chair and forced her to undergo alleged procedures that animals are subjected to. The aim was to urge the Committee for the Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals to rescue the animals. tnn
