PCMC releases final delimitation plan for civic elections | Pune News



Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Monday published its final delimitation plan for the forthcoming civic elections after receiving approval from the State Election Commission.The plan has been uploaded to the civic body’s official website and is available for public viewing at the PCMC headquarters.The twin cities will continue to have 128 corporators and 32 wards, with four corporators representing each ward — the same structure as the previous elections.“The State EC partially accepted the changes suggested in two submissions, while three submissions were approved fully,” a senior PCMC official said.“As per the final delimitation plan, Tamhane Vasti, part of ward number 1 earlier, is now included in ward number 12. Gavjatra Maidan and PCMC Hospital, in ward number 6 earlier, are now part of ward number 7. Similarly, Mhatoba Vasti, which was in ward number 24, has been moved to ward number 25,” said deputy municipal commissioner and PCMC’s election officer, Avinash Shinde.The civic body received 318 suggestions and objections from citizens and political representatives after publishing the draft delimitation plan.The hearings were conducted before Pravin Darade, principal secretary of the co-operation, marketing, and textiles department. Darade was appointed by the state govt to review the suggestions and objections afterthe civic body sent the revised draft to the govt last month. The proposal was subsequently forwarded to the State Election Commission for final approval.As per the election schedule, all municipal corporations falling under categories A, B and C, including PCMC, were required to publish their final, approved delimitation plans for citizens before Oct 6. The Supreme Court has mandated the state govtand the Election Commission to conduct the local body elections in Maharashtra before Jan 31.
