PCMC mayor to hold meeting with animal lovers for inclusive stray dog policy | Pune News

Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad mayor Ravi Landge said on Friday that the civic body would soon hold a meeting with animal lovers and NGOs to frame an inclusive policy for tackling the stray dog population in the city. The issue was raised by elected corporators at the first general body meeting held last month. Addressing a press conference after completing a month in office, Landge said the municipal corporation was working on a comprehensive plan that would balance public safety concerns with animal welfare. “We will organise a meeting with animal lovers and NGOs to formulate an inclusive policy to address the stray dog issue,” he said. Landge said the civic body was also considering setting up dog care centres at different locations in the city. He said special vehicles would be provided to each ward office to catch stray dogs. These measures, he said, would help deal with increasing complaints against stray dogs from residents across several localities.Landge said he had spent the past month visiting different parts of the city to understand civic issues raised by residents and corporators. Based on these visits, the civic administration has prepared a list of key problems and begun addressing them in phases.
