Pune: Pune Municipal Corporation’s water storage tank near Bhagwatinagar in Sutarwadi has been leaking for 15 days. Residents have filed multiple complaints, but in vain because the civic body was yet to plug it, said Sameer Uttarkar, a resident of the locality.Residents said that at a time when many societies have been facing water shortages and were dependent on tankers, PMC must consider that every drop of water was precious and act immediately to plug leaks of potable water.“I complained about it four days ago on the PMC helpline. The PMC needed to have some system to sound alerts about water leaks especially ahead of summer. Lakhs of liters of water have already been lost through this leak by now,” said Uttarkar. The leaking water has been following downhill and spreading on the main Sutarwadi road. It has made the road slippery. Dhananjay More, a resident of Vitthalnagar, said there was work going on ahead on the road and heavy vehicles carrying mud and other material constantly passed through the road. “Mud has been falling on the road and getting mixed with the water. It made the road sludgy and hazardous, especially for riders,” said More.Rahul Salunkhe, executive engineer in the water supply department of PMC, told TOI that they have deputed their workers to check the leak on Tuesday. “Our people have started digging in the area to understand the origin of the leak. We needed to know whether it was the tank that was leaking or one of the inlet/outlet pipes. By Wednesday, we would be able to find the exact location of the leak. Depending upon issue, it could be fixed immediately or may take some time,” said Salunkhe.
