Paan stall owner held on charge of wife’s murder at their home in Upper Indiranagar

Pune: The Bibvewadi police on Thursday arrested a 29-year-old owner of a paan stall for allegedly murdering his wife (23) by assaulting her and then throwing her from the third floor of their residential building in Upper Indiranagar on March 24. The woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Thursday.The police had initially registered a case under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police added Section 103 (murder) to the case on Thursday after the woman’s death. Her mother (50) has lodged the complaint.An officer from the Bibvewadi police said the accused ran a paan stall in the Swargate area and was living with his wife at Ambiknagar in Upper Indiranagar. “He frequently assaulted her, suspecting her of infidelity. On March 24, he allegedly attacked her with a blunt object and then pushed her from the third floor of the building,” the officer said, citing the complaint.The accused initially claimed that his wife had fallen accidentally. However, after noticing multiple injury marks on her body, her mother approached the police with a complaint. “The woman succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Thursday morning. We have arrested her husband and further investigation is under way,” the officer added.
