New Delhi: A 32-year-old property dealer was shot dead by unidentified assailants in northeast Delhi’s Shastri Park area late on Friday night, police said.The incident was reported at 11.25pm, when police at Shastri Park police station received information about a firing near the Buland Masjid area. When officers reached the spot, they found that the victim, identified as Sameer alias Mustaqeem alias Kammu Pehalwan, a resident of Buland Masjid, Shastri Park, was already rushed to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital by his family members. Doctors at the hospital declared him dead.
According to police, Sameer went out for a walk after dinner. On the night of the incident, he first took his young daughter to a doctor and returned home. After dinner, he stepped out around 11 pm, telling his family he was going for a short walk.Police said that when Sameer reached Bihari Chowk, a short distance from his house, he received a phone call. While he was still on the call, four assailants who arrived on foot allegedly surrounded him and opened fire. The attackers shot him five times at very close range, hitting him in the head, back and stomach, before fleeing the spot.Crime team and forensic science laboratory personnel were called to examine the spot. Forensic experts collected evidence from the scene of the crime. The body was later taken into custody and sent to the GTB Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.A case of murder was registered at Shastri Park police station. Police teams were formed to identify and trace the assailants and nearby CCTV footage is being scanned to reconstruct the sequence of events and track the suspects’ movement.Police said he was previously involved in Arms Act cases. Sameer is survived by his mother, five brothers, his wife and two daughters aged 3 years and 1 year. His father died about six months ago.
