New Delhi: Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police carried out raids at 2,348 locations across the city, targeting criminals, including narco offenders, auto lifters and gunrunners.The raids, part of Operation Kavach-12, were conducted from 6 pm Friday to 6 pm Saturday, special commissioner of police (crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava said.
Fifty-nine narco offenders were arrested in 55 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and 31 gram heroin, 31 kg ganja and a substantial amount of cash were seized. Additionally, 231 cases were registered under Delhi Excise Act and 238 people were apprehended. Twelve bottles of beer, 31 beer cartons, 12 bottles of liquor and 50,110 quarters of illicit liquor were seized. A total of 1,682 people were arrested under various sections of the excise Act. Furthermore, 117 people were arrested in 115 Arms Act cases. Two pistols, 16 country-made pistols, 25 live cartridges, 98 knives, 17 mobile phones and one licensed restricted weapon were seized. In 149 gambling cases, 261 people were arrested and Rs 3.5 lakh cash was seized. Thirty-one proclaimed offenders and 21 auto-lifters were also arrested. Thirty-three stolen vehicles were found and 2,276 vehicles seized under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act. As part of preventive measure, 703 people were taken into custody under Sections 126 and 170 of BNSS. A total of 4,082 individuals were taken into preventive custody, while 25,300 people were detained under Section 65 of Delhi Police Act. Moreover, 4,545 people with suspicious backgrounds were checked and 4,714 violators were prosecuted under Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act.As part of Operation Kavach-12, a south district police team led by ACP Mukesh Walia and SHO Paras Nath Verma raided a drug lab in south Delhi’s Devli and arrested Emmanuel (36), a Nigerian. Another team led by ACP (crime) Anil Sharma unearthed a factory in Bawana Industrial Area involved in fabrication of empty tubes used for spurious cosmetic and pharmaceutical products. In south-east district, 94 locations were raided, resulting in 72 arrests and 768 detentions. In central district, 77 teams conducted 303 raids, leading to 348 arrests, 2,230 detentions and 747 challans.
