Pune: A private insurance firm officer (37) lost Rs 21.6 lakh in an online share-trading fraud in Nov last year.The Phursungi police registered a case on Monday. An officer from the Phursungi police said last year in Nov, the victim was added to a group of investors on a mobile messaging app. He was promised 300% profit on his investments in stocks via them. The victim was then told to download an app to trade in shares and monitor the profit.
“The victim transferred Rs 21.6 lakh between Nov and Dec last year to the different bank accounts provided to him,” the officer said.He said the crooks told the victim that an IPO of Rs 14 lakh was allotted to him and were insisting on transferring Rs 14 lakh. When the victim tried to withdraw his money, the crooks told him that he needed to purchase the IPO to get his money.“The victim realised that he was being duped and approached the police. We have sought the details of the transactions from the victim’s bank,” he said.
