Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad cybercrime police on Friday arrested a trader Santosh Rupnar (40) from Manjari in Pune while investigating a share trading fraud case in which an accounts professional (54) lost rs 2.24 crore between July and Aug.The victim lodged a complaint with the Pimpri Chinchwad cybercrime police on Friday.Senior inspector Ravikiran Nale of the Pimpri Chinchwad police told TOI that the complainant was staying abroad and recently shifted to Pune. He does online share trading. “In July, the crooks contacted him through a mobile messaging app and added him to a group of investors,” Nale said.The officer said the crooks gave him training about the share market and assured him a return of over 50% if he invested through them. “They compelled the victim to download an application to make investments and monitor his profit,” the officer said.Nale said the complainant invested Rs 2.24 crore between July and Aug as per instructions from the crooks. He invested Rs 1 crore of his savings and took personal loans and borrowed money to invest further. “Whenever the complainant tried to withdraw his money, the crooks used to cite some reasons and made him transfer more,” Nale said.“We found that Rs 1 crore was transferred to a bank account in Pune, which belonged to Santosh Rupnar in Manjari. We have arrested him. Rupnar had given his bank account as a mule bank account to the crooks. We are investigating the handlers of Rupnar,” he said.Nale said the victim transferred money to more than 10 bank accounts. “We have sought the details of those accounts from the victim’s bank,” Nale said.Box: Use only SEBI registered applications for investmentsSenior inspector Ravikiran Nale appealed to the investors to make online investments in the stock market only through the apps registered with SEBI. “The investors did not verify the credibility of the app and blindly went on investing amounts and lost it to crooks,” Nale said.Nale said the crooks also made the victims transfer amounts to different bank accounts. “The investors should know that the apps registered with SEBI never give the option to transfer money to different bank accounts,” Nale said.
