Nomination filing for PMC, PCMC wards starts today | Pune News



Pune: The process to file nominations for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections will begin on Tuesday even as political parties continue to work out alliances and seat sharing.PMC has set up 15 offices across the city, one for three wards, to accept nominations for 41 wards. In PCMC jurisdiction, eight returning offices have been established for 32 wards, one for four wards. On Monday, last-minute preparations were underway at the facilities to ensure a smooth nomination process.

Nominations may be filed till Dec 30 — except on Dec 25 and 28. Though candidates have six working days for the process, a rush is expected in the last few days as parties finalise candidatures.Sources said candidates fighting as independents will submit their applications starting from Tuesday. However, aspirants seeking tickets from political parties will be in a wait-and-watch mode.The BJP and Shiv Sena are expected to join hands for the PMC polls, but seat sharing has not yet been finalised. It is unlikely that NCP will share seats with BJP in a friendly fight. Congress is planning to fight on all seats alone. There are talks that NCP and NCP (SP) may join hands for the PMC polls and major developments are expected in this regard over the next few days, sources added.Civic authorities said the staff on election duty has been trained to accept applications from candidates. There will be adequate security measures at all offices. Political workers have been urged not to enter the premises and follow guidelines.Meanwhile, PMC has introduced an online system to issue no objection certificates (NOCs) to candidates. Over 2,100 NOC applications have been received via the system, so far. The first NOC was issued to an applicant on Monday. The administration has e-linked 44 departments to generate reports basis which NOCs and no dues certificates will be issued.Pune additional municipal commissioner Omprakash Divte said the online NOC system will save time and simplify the process of issuing documents.PMC and PCMC have set up dedicated cells at each office to accept complaints regarding violations of the model code of conduct. All election offices of returning officers in PMC and PCMC limits have started to function at full capacities.
