New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal issued notices to Delhi Pollution Control Committee, DDA and other agencies on a plea alleging illegal construction in a green belt in Rohini’s Sector 16. Directing the respondents to adhere to the 2021 Master Plan and the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, the tribunal ordered that preventive and punitive action be taken within one month.NGT is hearing a plea filed by activist Varun Gulati alleging encroachment and illegal construction on a designated green belt in Block-D, Pocket-1, Sector-16, Rohini. The applicant submitted photographs to the tribunal to support the claim that some unknown person is raising illegal construction on the green belt. He also claimed that although the complaint was made to the concerned authorities, no action was taken until now and the construction is in progress.“The respondents are directed to comply with the provisions of the DDA Master Plan 2021 and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, and take requisite preventive, punitive and remedial action in terms thereof within a month, and to specifically mention in their responses action taken by them for discharge of their statutory obligations under the same,” said the bench in an order dated Jan 16.
