Thane: Residents can soon expect affordable and advanced treatment at the state-of-the-art Thane Civil Super Speciality Hospital, which is set to be operational in the coming months, state health minister Prakash Abitkar said on Wednesday.Abitkar, who visited the hospital site, said the reconstruction work is nearing completion.“Launched in 2022-23, this is a dream project of our govt…Once completed and operational, this hospital will be the biggest public health facility in the region,” the minister said.Thane civil hospital is a tertiary care facility frequented by local residents, and even those from far-flung corners of the district as well as neighbouring Palghar and Raigad districts. As the civil hospital is undergoing a revamp with the original structure razed in 2022, many patients had to rely on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial Hospital in Kalwa run by the Thane Municipal Corporation. With thousands of patients thronging its corridors daily, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial Hospital has buckling under the pressure and eventually referring them to Mumbai. The new and improved civil hospital is expected to bridge this critical gap. “The construction is in its final phase, and the installation of equipment is also underway. The hospital is likely to be fully operational by Feb 2026,” said Dr Kailash Pawar, civil surgeon.“We are setting up cutting-edge diagnostic technology, advanced ICUs, and introducing specialised departments for cardiology, oncology, and maternity care, among others. The new facility will provide accessible and high-quality medical treatment at nominal costs and will also serve as a major referral centre for the entire Thane district,” said Dr Pawar.
