NDMC starts subway work to link Gole Market museum

New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council laid on Thursday the foundation stone for the subway project connecting Bhai Veer Singh Marg with the under-construction Gole Market museum located at the roundabout.The subway will be equipped with lifts for differently abled people at the entry and exit points. “The construction will cost around Rs 1.9 crore, with a deadline of four months,” said an official.NDMC chairman Keshav Chandra said the Gole Market building was being redeveloped into a museum. “The total project cost, including the subway, is Rs 21.7 crore and will be completed in Feb 2026,” he added.Pushing the museum project, NDMC had constructed the slab on the first floor and was undertaking interior works for the dome, officials said earlier. The council started the work on the redevelopment project in Oct 2023 and it was to be completed by Oct 2025. However, this April, NDMC revised the schedule and pushed the revamp deadline to March 2026.NDMC has also identified a site 100 metres from Gole Market to develop a surface parking, which will accommodate 200-250 vehicles. The civic body has initiated correspondence with the land and development office for allowing the use of the space for parking. Developing the surrounding area is also part of the overall Gole Market project.
