Nana Peth revenge murder: FIR against former corporator’s wife for obstructing police during arrest | Pune News



Pune: Samarth police on Thursday registered an FIR against Sonali Andekar, wife of slain former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar, her sister-in-law and 11 others for allegedly preventing a police team from taking Sonali into custody in connection with the revenge murder of Ayush Komkar (18) at Nana Peth. They have been charged under sections 221 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 189, and 190 (unlawful assembly) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Ayush, grandson of gangster Bandu alias Suryakant Andekar, was shot dead in the basement parking of his residential building at Nana Peth on Sept 5 by two men in an act to avenge Vanraj’s murder on Sept 1 last year. Police have already arrested 13 people, including Bandu Andekar, his son Krishnaraj, daughter, and her two sons, in connection with the revenge murder.During investigations, police found that Sonali played an active role in the murder conspiracy. On Wednesday, when a police team went to arrest her, Sonali and her sister-in-law instigated their women supporters to prevent that. “Our women police constables were constantly telling them to leave the place and let them do their job, but those women did not listen and tried to obstruct the team,” an officer from Pune crime branch said on Friday.Police have so far frozen Rs 50.66 lakh in 27 bank accounts belonging to the accused in the revenge murder of Ayush. Gold jewellery and cash worth more than Rs 75 lakh have already been seized from Bandu Andekar’s home. “We are also collecting information about the assets of all the Andekar gang members,” the crime branch officer said.
