Mumbai’s fitness scene gets a new spin
The city’s workout crowd is ditching treadmills for tides, turning yachts into fitness studios

A new spin on fitnessThe sessions are led by fitness and longevity coach Khyati Kanjani, who left her job to build a spin culture in India. “I quit my high-paying job at Apple in Silicon Valley to start a spin culture in India. That was my dream. This is new in Mumbai, but it was created by a few people in iterations. I’ve created many unique formats like blind folded spin and trampoline spin. But for yacht spinning, I have just designed the workout,” she says.Khyati adds, “This helps them try fitness in a fun, non-intimidating setting.”Why spinning worksSpinning, or high-intensity indoor cycling, has long been recognised for its health benefits. The yacht and beach formats may be unconventional, but the physiological advantages remain solid. For a city always on the move, this offshore workout delivers both intensity and pause.1-Cardiovascular strength2- Low-impact intensity3- Full muscle engagement4- Improved mental wellbeingA workout with a viewDuring a Valentine’s Day session, a couple marked their wedding anniversary on board. “On our wedding anniversary, my wife found this unique way of staying fit and enjoying our day in a different way. We really enjoyed it. It is something different happening in Mumbai, and we got empty slots, so we were happy. It is a totally different experience. We would love to do it again,” say Chetan Thaker (44) and Deepali (40).For 30-year-old entrepreneur Tanishq Bindra, the setting made all the difference. “It’s an amazing experience, something I have never done before, and it really keeps that momentum up. It feels crazy that you are in the middle of the sea spinning. I never imagined doing it. It was a power-packed session. I am very much into fitness, and I work out very often. The gym is my second home, but this is very calming to work out in the middle of the sea. I also get to meet new people, which is a thrilling experience. In the gym, it can get monotonous, so this is more like a community experience, which I love.”I have come here along with my friend. We encouraged each other to do this, and I have never spun before in life, so that was new for me. And along with it, spinning on a yacht is something I never thought of – Arushi Gupta, who recently attended her first session
