MUMBAI: A routine patrol near Borivali East railway station led police to arrest a wanted jewellery thief. Karan Singh Kharwar was caught by a team from Kasturba Marg police station, who recovered cash, gold, and diamonds stolen from a shop in Navi Mumbai on 6 September. Kharwar will now be handed over to Navi Mumbai Police.On 6 September, a theft occurred at Parasnath Jewellers in Kamothe, Navi Mumbai, between 2 pm and 3 pm. The jeweller reported the loss of 78 tolas of gold, 18 diamonds, and Rs 1.3 lakh in cash. Kamothe police and the crime branch launched a joint investigation.Kharwar had reached Borivali while attempting to flee to his hometown in Rajasthan. Kasturba Marg police spotted him acting suspiciously with a bag and intercepted him. When the bag was checked, the stolen items were recovered. Kharwar could not give a satisfactory explanation.Investigations revealed that Kharwar had been employed at the same jewellery store about 10 days earlier. He reportedly gathered information and, when his employer went out for lunch, stole the jewellery and fled.
