Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP instructs Thane’s civic bodies to resolve Ghodbunder highway issues

Thane: Shiv Sena Thane MP Naresh Mhaske on Friday instructed all civic and infrastructure agencies working in Thane to urgently resolve persistent problems faced by residents staying along the Ghodbunder Highway. The pre-scheduled review meeting was called following directions from deputy CM Eknath Shinde to resolve issues related to traffic congestion, repairing pothole-ridden flyovers, curbing illegal parking, and improving water and power supply and cleanliness. “Activists have been complaining on how accidents occur due to potholes and patchwork bumps. The condition of the road on the flyover is bad, following which officials were asked to take immediate measures and repair the road and flyovers between Anandnagar and Gaimukh. The spots, including dangerous road gaps, especially at junctions where two roads merge, should also be fixed without delay,” Mhaske said, setting a deadline of Dec 10.Raising concern over rampant illegal parking narrowing key public roads, Mhaske ordered strict penalty drives. Pointing to severe congestion outside a prominent school at Pokhran during drop and pick-up hours, Mhaske directed traffic police and TMC to ensure parents’ vehicles and school buses are parked inside the school premises. The deputy commissioner of police (traffic) Pankaj Shirsat addressed complaints related to traffic and auto drivers, and appealed to citizens to register complaints with the Mahatraffic Police App. Moreover, residents also complained of frequent power cuts in the highway areas. Mukesh Thombre, a Shiv Sena functionary from Waghbil, said the area has been facing frequent unscheduled power cuts. “The cuts are often in the middle of the night, leaving residents inconvenienced. The power supply fluctuates often, damaging gadgets. Societies have been forced to install diesel generators to manage the situation,” he said. Mhaske chided MSEDCL for ignoring the complaints made by residents and asked the power supplier to immediately resolve the issues faced. Meanwhile, the Sena MP also questioned the administration over the rising water scarcity plaguing the residents of Waghbil. He informed the citizens that additional water supply has been secured through the intervention of deputy CM Shinde and assured consistent efforts towards a stable supply.
