Mumbai railway police suspended for extorting money from duo

Mumbai: Two railway police attached to Vasai Road Railway Station were suspended on Aug 1 for allegedly extorting Rs 5000 on June 13 from a man who was conversing with his female friend on the railway foot over bridge. The case was registered after a complaint from Ashwain Prabhu and his female friend, who were standing on the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Vasai Road Railway Station when the two officers, Milind Satav and Sachin Valve, threatened to file a case against them.A police officer said that, despite no misconduct or unlawful activity on their part, the two officers approached them and forcibly took away his mobile. “The suspended cops took the two to the Govt. Railway Police “Chawki” (a room at the Vasai Road Railway Station premises used by Railway Police) and threatened them before allowed to leave after taking Rs5000,” said the officer.
