Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation awaits CMRS approval for underground Metro 2B Phase from Worli to Cuffe Parade

Mumbai: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) is ready to launch Phase 2B of the underground Metro Line 3 from Worli to Cuffe Parade, but final approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is still awaited. The CMRS nod is mandatory before public operations can begin. An advanced CMRS team inspected the stretch on Friday, reviewing track alignment, signalling, power systems, and emergency protocols. Officials said this was a precursor to the final visit, which is expected soon. “Safety is our top priority. CMRS approval will ensure all systems are ready for passengers,” a senior MMRCL official said.MMRCL confirmed that trial runs were completed successfully, with all systems functioning smoothly. Metro Line 3, spanning 33.5km from Cuffe Parade to Aarey, is being opened in phases. The stretch from Aarey to BKC became operational in October 2024, followed by BKC to Acharya Atre Chowk in May 2025. Phase 2B will link Mumbai’s southern business district with key residential and commercial hubs, easing traffic along the Worli-Cuffe Parade corridor and cutting travel time for thousands of commuters.
