Mumbai: A 21-year-old man was arrested by Malwani Police on Sept 6 for allegedly killing his sister’s boyfriend. Police said Ashish Shetty, the accused, surrendered at Malwani police station several hours after the offence. Shetty is a choreographer and lives near Malwani Church.According to the police, Shetty had learnt that his sister was in a relationship with 40-yr-old Nitin Solanki, for the past three years. Solanki worked as a ward boy at a private hospital and lived at Jogeshwari. According to the police, the murder was pre-planned. On Sept 5, around 7 pm, Shetty called up Solanki and said he wanted to meet up. Shetty then went to Jogeshwari to meet Solanki and convinced him to come along to Malad. Shetty told Solanki that he would help make his relationship with his sister permanent.Shetty brought Solanki along to a nullah near Marve Road T-Junction at Malad (W). He told the police that the two of them were sitting near some bushes and talking around 10.30 pm, when Solanki started to talk ill about his sister and mother. Shetty then allegedly attacked Solanki with a wooden stick and killed him. Solanki’s mother told the police that she was unaware of the murder until her son’s girlfriend visited her home and informed about it around 7.30 am on Sept 6. “The girl said nobody but her brother knew where my son was,” Solanki’s mother told the police. “While looking for my son, I learnt that he had been taken to Shatabdi Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead,” she added.Around noon the next day, Shetty surrendered at Malwani police station. A team of officers rushed to the spot and rushed Solanki to a public hospital where he was pronounced dead. A case of murder was then registered against Shetty. Police recovered the wooden stick used for the assault and sent it for a forensic analysis.
