Mumbai: The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad for the weekend (Sept 27 and 28) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Rains had subsided in the city as on Wednesday, however the weather bureau expects intense showers to return over the weekend. Moderate rains are expected in the city and in adjoining areas today. The rainfall recorded in Mumbai in the 24 hours ending Sept 24 was very meagre, below one mm. The official monsoon withdrawal date for Mumbai is Oct 8. With almost over a week still to go for the month to end the IMD’s Santacruz observatory has already recorded close to 400 mm of rainfall, exceeding the monthly average of 383.5 mm.
