Mumbai: The first hearing for 189 objections and suggestions received on the draft ward formation for BMC general elections was conducted on Wednesday. The BMC received a total of 492 objections and suggestions after they were invited from the public from August 22 to September 4. Accordingly, a hearing was conducted at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Iqbal Singh Chahal, for 189 objections and suggestions received on the draft ward formation.The notification for the publication of geographical boundaries of draft wards was issued on August 22. Meanwhile, the BMC has said that citizens can appear in person for the hearing on draft ward formation on September 11 and September 12 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre, as per the letters sent to them for the hearing. Earlier, in 2022, when the number of corporator electoral wards was increased to 236, about 892 suggestions and objections were received, while during the 2017 civic polls, 613 were received. The final ward boundaries are expected to be notified by October 6.
