Mumbai: Given the rising burden of kidney disease, the BMC plans to open three new dialysis centres, albeit with private partnerships.According to the tender document, corporate hospitals or dialysis service providers can apply. Health activists have criticised PPPs for a number of reasons, including lack of accountability and proper access for the poor.These centres—one each in Garodia Nagar Dispensary in Santacruz (W), the Pahadi Village multi-OPD in Goregaon (E), and the Girijabai Building in Mulund (E)—will be offered on a 30-year lease. The annual lease rate has been set at 1 rupee per square foot.The dialysis fee cannot exceed Rs 500 per session, including medicines and doctor’s fees. Furthermore, at least 40% of the beds will be reserved for patients referred by the BMC. Patients from weaker sections, ration card holders, and govt scheme beneficiaries will receive free dialysis, said the document.
