Mumbai: Central Railway officials on Wednesday said that during this year, several amenities were provided for better passenger safety and convenience.“From January to August, a total of 10 escalators were provided, which includes 2 escalators each at Karjat, Tilak Nagar, Mankhurd, Vikhroli, and Vangani stations. Nine lifts were provided, including 3 at Govandi, 2 each at Khardi and Sewri stations, and 1 each at Shelu and Chunabhatti stations,” said CR Chief Spokesperson Swapnil Nila.The six-metre-wide FOB was completed at Govandi, while CSMT old FOB connectors to platform 14/15, 16/17, and 18 were revamped, and reconstruction of the old staircase at Masjid station was completed this year. Apart from this, 228 new ATVMs (Automatic Ticket Vending Machines) were installed at 75 stations in the Mumbai Division. “ATVMs provide fast ticketing solutions, enabling passengers to be free of long queues at ticket windows,” he said.A total of 170 new buzzers were installed at various stations on the Main and Harbour lines for the benefit of Divyangjan passengers. These buzzers are extremely helpful to Divyangjan passengers, especially the visually challenged, to locate the place earmarked for Divyangjan.Some of the other replacements included those of old platform indicators and passenger address systems at some of the stations along the Central Railway suburban section.
