Motorists: Potholes on Navi Mumbai roads cause jams

Navi Mumbai: Potholes have surfaced on several arterial roads, causing vehicle breakdowns and significant traffic snarls. Motorists are facing inconvenience due to deteriorated condition of major roads such as the Sion-Panvel highway, Thane-Belapur road, and the new Airport Road between Belapur and Ulwe. The widespread presence of crater-filled patches has resulted in a noticeable slowdown of vehicular movement across these key thoroughfares.Residents voiced their frustration, alleging that authorities have shown minimal concern in addressing the issues. “The roads have become increasingly hazardous, and there is no visible effort to repair the potholes,” said a local commuter, Vinit Patil. The poor state of the roads poses a serious challenge, especially with the festival season approaching. Devotees are apprehensive about transporting idols through the bumpy roads, which they describe as a nightmare. Commuters using the bus stand at Uran Phata near Nerul along the busy Sion-Panvel highway are forced to wait to board the bus at distant locations. NMMC city engineer Shirish Aradwad said, “Heavy rain did not allow us to carry out the patch work, but we will fix the potholes once the rain recedes.”
