Pune: Police on Wednesday invoked stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) provisions against gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar and 12 others named in the revenge killing of Ayush Komkar (18) in Nana Peth on Sept 5. So far, eight out the 13 accused have been arrested. Ayush was shot dead by two assailants in the basement parking of his building in Nana Peth to avenge his uncle and former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar’s murder on Sept 1, 2024, in which Ayush’s father, Ganesh, is one of the 21 jailed accused. Police have arrested the two shooters apart from Bandu Andekar, his daughter, Vrundavani Wadekar, her two sons, Tushar and Swaraj, and two others as conspirators in the murder of Ayush. The victim’s mother Kalyani Komkar is the complainant in the Nana Peth murder.An officer from the Pune police said Andekar and his accomplices were involved in murders, abduction, possession of illegal weapons, and other serious crimes. “Senior police inspector Umesh Gitte prepared a proposal of the MCOCA against Andekar and 12 others. Additional commissioner of police Rajendra Bansode issued the order to book the gang under the MCOCA,” the officer said.The Pune police on Wednesday night carried out searches at the house of Andekar in Nana Peth. The searches were going on till late night in the presence of Andekar, police said.
