Pune: The last date to apply for the 25% reserved quota in entry-level classes of private, unaided schools in Maharashtra under the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been postponed to March 31 from March 25, said a notification of the primary education department.As many as 2,72,274 applications were received till Wednesday afternoon. Last year, the total number of applications received was 3,05,161.On Feb 12, the state had said students could apply to schools only within a 1km radius of their homes. The rule of a 3km radius was restored after criticism from parents and a Bombay high court order. Admissions to all schools across the state under RTE are centrally conducted online.The admissions under RTE are open to children from economically weaker sections and disadvantaged groups. In Pune, there is usually a huge rush for popular schools, even though many beneficiaries are still unaware of the rule.
