Pune: A case of cheating and criminal breach of trust has been registered against the manager of a credit cooperative society for misappropriating funds of Rs1 crore between 2015 and 2019 from its Shivajinagar branch.A govt auditor lodged a complaint with the Shivajinagar police on Monday.

Senior inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi of Shivajinagar police told TOI: “According to the FIR, it is the manager’s responsibility to check daily transactions, registers and other activities. He is required to verify people seeking loans and witnesses.”The manager prepared fake and fabricated proposals and took loans without checking witnesses and recording details, Bolkotgi said. “The credit society neither received EMIs for the loans nor did it follow up with the customers for repayment. Resultantly, the state cooperative department issued orders to probe the matter,” he said.The audit was done and it revealed that the manager and some others employees had sanctioned loans without following due procedures, the senior inspector said.“It is not known where the money went and to which beneficiaries. Prima facie, it is suspected that the manager received the benefits,” Bolkotgi said and added: “The audit report confirmed there was misappropriation of Rs1 crore.”
