Pune: A woman pursuing an MBA and doing her internship with a private company in Veerbhadranagar, Baner, had a narrow escape on Friday morning when her former boyfriend tried to shoot her and his firearm malfunctioned.The incident took place on the premises of the firm the woman works at and she raised an alarm immediately. The man sensed trouble and fled on his two-wheeler. “The Baner police are looking for him and have registered a case of attempted murder. The suspect works in a private company,” said deputy commissioner of police (zone IV) Somay Munde. Investigations are going on, he added.Senior inspector of the Baner police Chandrashekhar Sawant told TOI that preliminary investigations have revealed the two were in a relationship some time ago. The woman broke up with the man, but he continued to pursue her.On Friday, around 10.30am, the man approached her wearing clothes like a delivery agent. He tried to talk to her just as she was about to enter the company building. He had followed her from her residence in Pimple Saudagar.Sawant said, “The man pulled out a firearm when the woman refused to speak with him. He took aim at her and pulled the trigger. However, the bullet did not fire.” The terrified woman raised an alarm, drawing the attention of the people around. Security guards and company employees rushed towards them, but the man rode away on his two-wheeler parked nearby, the officer said.The police have recovered a cartridge from the spot. The company’s office is located in an old building at Veerbhadranagar in Baner and there are no CCTV cameras around, he said.The woman said the man has a criminal case registered against him with the the Pimpri Chinchwad police. “We are verifying it,” Sawant added.
