New Delhi: A 24-year-old man was arrested in west Delhi‘s Hari Nagar for allegedly duping a person by swapping his ATM card and withdrawing money from his account, police said on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Krishan alias Rishi, a resident of Sultanpuri. The case came to light earlier this month when the person approached police with allegations that he was tricked while using an ATM in Hari Nagar. “On Aug 1, the complainant went to withdraw cash at an ATM kiosk in DB Block, when two men came up to him from behind offering assistance. Transactions failed then,” said DCP (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar. “The next day, he received messages showing two successful withdrawals totalling Rs 90,000. It was then that he realised his ATM card was exchanged with a similar one.”An e-FIR was subsequently registered at Hari Nagar police station, and a police team was formed that traced the withdrawals to an ATM in Tilak Nagar. Based on technical surveillance and local inquiries, the suspects were identified as Krishan and his relative, Amarnath. Krishan was later apprehended, and the stolen money was recovered from him. “He was found to be previously involved in one other criminal case,” an officer said. Efforts are on to trace Amarnath.A case has been registered under sections 318 (cheating) and 303 (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further probe is underway.
