Man beaten to death by group on suspicion of theft, five held

New Delhi: A 25-year-old man was killed after he was allegedly beaten by a group of people on suspicion of theft in South Extension Part-II. The incident took place on Thursday night.Police received information at 10.30 am about a body lying near the wall of an under-construction site in the south Delhi area. On reaching the spot, officers found the body of a man with visible injuries. A crime team and a team of experts from forensic science laboratory were called for a detailed investigation.

The deceased was identified as Gurmeet Singh, alias Prince, a resident of Andrews Ganj.“Preliminary inquiry revealed that he entered the site during the night, allegedly for theft, and was caught and assaulted by labourers. He later succumbed to his injuries,” a cop said.Five labourers were apprehended in connection with the case. Police said prima facie, it appears to be a murder. Investigators are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to establish the sequence of events.In 2024, a 24-year-old man was murdered and his friend was injured after they were severely beaten by a group in Kishangarh, also on suspicion of theft. Similarly, in 2023, a 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death in east Delhi’s Madhu Vihar under similar circumstances.
