Maharashtra: Truck engine catches fire and collides with bike in Thane, 2 riders injured

Thane: A motorcyclist and his pillion rider suffered injuries after a truck, whose driver lost control of the vehicle after its engine suddenly caught fire, collided their bike on the Mumbra bypass late Wednesday. The incident was reported near the Ganesh Visarjan Ghat at Retibunder in Mumbra around 9.10 pm, officials said. According to the Disaster Management Cell, the truck’s engine caught fire, causing the driver to panic. During the chaos., the truck hit a passing bike, resulting in the motorcycle crashing into the road divider. The truck driver fled the spot. Fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene with a fire engine and a rescue vehicle, while disaster management teams arrived with a utility vehicle. The fire was successfully extinguished by around 9.30 pm, and the situation was brought under control.

The two injured bikers were identified as Zain Siddiqui (27), who sustained injuries to his hand, and Sarfaraz Sheikh (32), who suffered injuries to his hand and leg. Both are residents of Nalasopara and were rushed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa for treatment. Officials said further inquiry is underway to determine the exact cause of the truck fire.
