Mumbai: CM Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday condemned the Karnataka govt’s decision to change the name of Shivajinagar metro station in Bengaluru to St Mary’s station. “This is an insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by the Congress govt of Karnataka. The Congress has the tradition of insulting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj right since the days of Jawaharlal Nehru. Nehru expressed an adverse opinion about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his book Discovery of India. I pray to God to give some wisdom to the Congress CM of Karnataka. He must not create religious tension by making such name changes,” Fadnavis said.A political row erupted in Karnataka after chief minister Siddaramaiah promised to rename Shivajinagar metro station in Bengaluru after St Mary. The announcement was made on Monday during the annual feast at St Mary’s Basilica, where Siddaramaiah promised Archbishop Peter Machado that the govt would “positively consider” the request. Deputy chief minister D K Shivakumar backed Siddaramaiah’s remarks, saying there was nothing unusual in responding to community requests.
