Maharashtra Cinema Act to be amended to facilitate ease of doing business, says minister Shelar

Mumbai: State cultural affairs minister Ashish Shelar on Tuesday said the Maharashtra Cinema Act will be amended to facilitate the Ease of Doing Business. He directed the department to submit a proposal to the Centre seeking approval for amending the Act. State govt is positive in changing the outdated rules for licensing cinema halls, regulating them and for their facilities and security and making a policy in line with the development of the cinema business in line with the times, said Shelar, during a meeting to discuss various problems and demands of the Cinema Owners and Exhibitors Association of India. “Keeping in mind various demands such as changing the license conditions, using cinema halls and premises for alternative commercial use, using a single-window scheme for licenses, construction permits, service charge rules, preparing a plan to promote the film industry, property redevelopment policy, changing entertainment tax, regulations for single screen cinemas, the government will make comprehensive necessary changes and take a decision on the lines of Ease of Doing Business,” he said.
