NEW DELHI: When 56-year-old Ravinder Kumar from south Delhi’s Rajokri went missing in early June, the disappearance puzzled investigators. However, the mystery was solved when police recovered a body in Uttarakhand on June 5, later identified as Kumar’s, revealing a shocking murder plot allegedly hatched by his wife Reena Sindhu and her lover Paritosh.Uttarakhand Police arrested the duo after uncovering a web of deceit rooted in a love affair, property dispute and marital discord that allegedly prompted them to murder Kumar.Kumar’s body was found in a ditch near Kotdwar, unveiling a tangled web of secrets in his personal life. According to the FIR, Kumar married Sindhu despite a 20-year age gap, and of late, she started having an affair with someone else.Sindhu operated a physiotherapy centre. She fell in love with Paritosh, who visited the centre a few years ago for treatment. Kumar earned a rental income of around Rs 1 lakh from his properties. However, his life took a turn for the worse when he was convicted in a cheque bounce case and sentenced to six months in prison. He wanted to sell a property to repay his debt of Rs 18 lakh.Since last year, Kumar and Sindhu started having frequent fights on various issues. Sindhu, police said, tried to prevent Kumar from selling their property in Moradabad, which was worth crores. A few months ago, Sindhu and Paritosh allegedly planned to eliminate Kumar to get hold of his properties. On May 31, Sindhu allegedly lured Kumar to Paritosh’s house in Nagina in Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of a party. She got Kumar drunk and the duo killed him with a spade, striking in his neck and chest. “The body was transported in an SUV 500, first to Ramnagar and then to Kotdwar. Under the cover of morning, the accused dumped the body near Dugadda, throwing it off the road, and fled. Later, the vehicle was abandoned at a Noida intersection,” said a senior officer. When police started the probe, it appeared to be a road accident. However, the postmortem report revealed that Kumar’s two ribs were broken, indicating a murder. The Kotdwar police found that Sindhu was in Kotdwar around the same time and Kumar’s SUV was missing. Some clues using technical inputs and CCTV footage led police to a local parking lot, where the SUV was found abandoned. While Sindhu claimed to be elsewhere, a technical probe revealed that she stayed in a guesthouse in Haridwar on May 26, and Kumar visited a friend’s house in Nagina on May 31. The final piece of evidence came from a slip found in Kumar’s pocket, linking him to the guesthouse. This crucial lead helped the Kotdwar police track down Sindhu and Paritosh, leading to their arrest.
